The Minister for Information and Member of Parliament for Ofoase – Ayirebi Constituency, Honourable Kojo Oppong Nkrumah embarked on a media tour of the Savannah Region yesterday 08/05/2021. As a minister of state in charge of a sector with a mandate of promoting good governance through information dissemination, constructive and constant engagement with people, the minister dialogued with Media Practitioners of the Region on a wide range of issues not only as a minister but also a colleague media person.

Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah conveyed appreciation and thank you message to the journalists on behalf of the President, Government and People of Ghana for their good job. He also however emphasized on the need to promote the infant Region through life-changing stories and reportage aside the mostly published negative stories.

“One of the surest way to ensure and keep up good journalistic standards is to verify stories before publication in order not to dent people’s reputation and that of yours” says the Minister. Journalists across the region from various media outlets in Ghana graced the engagement with the Minister.

He admonished them to also tolerate people with dissenting views on the stories they write and not tag them as gagging the media front, the right to free expression is open to every Ghanaian and must be respected at all times by journalist.

He gave assurances of the ministry’s readiness to work with them in the region and must support government by getting the right information to feed the minds of the people for national development. The government of President Akuffo Addo will continue to respect the role of the media in the socioeconomic and political affairs of the nation by shaping policies and

programmes aimed at bettering their lot in accessement and dissemination of information and holding government accountable.
